Adolescent Substance Abuse: Trends, Comorbidities, and Interventions for High School Settings by Dr Robert MirandaDescription: Dr. Miranda will provide detailed, up-to-date information on the prevalence, diagnosis, and causes of substance use disorders in adolescents. He will also present the newest recommendations for the clinical management of substance misuse among adolescents in school settings. Co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders are common and increasingly targeted in substance abuse treatment. Dr. Miranda will discuss advances in our scientific knowledge of empirically supported treatments for adolescent substance misuse, and highlight developmental aspects of alcohol and drug misuse in this age group.
Dr. Robert Miranda is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. His also serves as an administrator overseeing behavioral health in the Portsmouth School Department in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He is an internationally recognized clinical scientist in the area of addiction among adolescents.
